The Rockies took game 1 of Thursday's twinbill 6-5, but not before Mets third baseman David Wright took a bases-loaded 3-2 pitch from Rockies' reliever Matt Lindstrom in the bottom of the ninth all the way to the edge of the warning track. Outfielder Seth Smith was there to make the catch.
The bullpen looked shaky this afternoon, though the offense again came through. Outfielder Carlos Gonzalez went deep for the first time in 2011, and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki sent a solo shot to the left field stands. His home run, the sixth in the last 10 games, puts him in the lead for home runs in the National League. It'll never happen, but he's on pace to hit over 80 home runs. He has, however, hit 37 home runs in his last 21 games dating back to September of last year.
Babe Ruth would be proud.
Game two coming up in a few minutes.
