Rockies Enjoy Nice Bounce-Back Win

The Pittsburgh Pirates were hoping Fireworks Night at PNC Park was indicative of how they'd play Saturday night.

It was, but without the result they were hoping for.

Seth Smith crushed a solo home run to right-center field, and Ty Wigginton drives in a bases-loaded RBI double to help the Rockies cruise to a 6-4 win over the Pirates.

The Rockies improve to 2-1 on the road, and are in line for a 4 to 5-win road trip, which would be the best thing for the team right now. To come back to Coors Field with 10 wins would be an incredible motivator.

The offense learned their lesson from last night, when Carlos Gonzalez, Troy Tulowitzki, Chris Iannetta, and Seth Smith went a combined 0-f0r-20.

Smith went 2-for-4 with an solo home run, Gonzalez had 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 RBI, and even though Tulo went 0-for-4 and Iannetta had the night off, the offense put up solid numbers.

I'd say message received.

If the Rockies can do it again tomorrow afternoon, they can easily take three of four from the Bucs. If they can do it for four games against the Mets next week, look for the Rockies to come home with the best road trip they've had in a while.

And it's only April.

The Rockies can build on this success and win more than 31 games on the road, they could be in line for a big year. We'll continue to find out more as the season progresses, but this is a good sign for the team.
